Dorian Dickinson Obituary

Dorian Lamara Dickinson was born in Mobile, AL, on May 11, 1949. She passed away at her home in Leakesville, MS, on April 12, 2024 after braving the challenges of non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver.

She grew up in Leakesville where she made life-long friends that still love her so dearly. She attended Leakesville High School where she was a cheerleader and a basketball guard. After graduating high school, she attended Jones County Junior College and the Mississippi University for Women “the W” where she met additional life-long friends. After “the W”, Dorian accepted a position with the Mississippi State University Extension Service and moved to Laurel, MS, where she continued to make life-long friendships. It was always exciting to view her occasional segment on the local midday news where she shared cooking, sewing, household, and gardening tips. After working for the Extension Service for 27 years, she was able to retire to enjoy a life of gardening, playing bridge, and meeting old and new friends. She was involved with the Garden Club and was a Master Flower Show Judge for the MS Flower Show Judges’ Council. She also had a passion for watching college football and women’s college basketball. She was always cheering for Mississippi State.

Dorian loved children, especially all of her grandchildren that called her Didi. She was always full of energy, smiles, and could light up a room wherever she was.  She is leaving behind a large, loving family and was a blessing to anyone who met her.

Dorian was preceded in death by her parents, David and Edythe Dickinson and her husband, Fred Heindl.

She is survived by a large loving family.
